On Thursday June 22nd, Greystone Technology hosted our first monthly event for the meetup group Technology for Non Technical Business Leaders. This month’s discussion focused on Internet of Things (IoT) in the business. We were honored to have Jake Rishavy, VP of Innovation for Denver South and co-founder of Prime Health and TechrIoT as our guest speaker. Jake explained how IoT is changing business processes through the automated collection of business intelligence, how businesses are leveraging these new technologies and the data they collect, along with how IoT is shaping how knowledge workers are getting work done.

According to Gartner, by 2020 there will be over 26 billon connected device, with some estimates being as high as 100 billion.  The communication between these devices will have a huge impact on how we conduct business. Utilizing IoT, businesses can engage with customers more effectively, tracking customer requirements and needs more easily. For example, a tire manufacturer can sense tire tread of fleet vehicle and notify the fleet manager when a tire is becoming unsafe or even automatically scheduling on-site tire replacement.

As we mentioned above, IoT won’t just have an impact on the obvious businesses like manufacturing and facilities management. Startups and established technology companies alike are exploring ways to incorporate internet connection into everything, creating opportunities for artificial intelligence (AI) to learn behavior patterns and provide recommendations for more efficient and effective ways to work. This, coupled with the data collected by these connected devices, will change the way we all work

We would love to have you join us for our next monthly meetup event as we continue discussing how non-technical businesses leaders can understand and leverage technology to enhance their business. You can join the meetup group at Meetup Group: Technology for Non-technical Business Leaders and follow the conversation at the LinkedIn group at https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12049579
