Greystone by the Numbers is an admittedly convoluted way to introduce you to another side of our team! These brief “interviews” begin by putting everyone’s name in a numbered list and a number randomizer is used to pick 4 “chosen ones” each month.  After those 4 have been chosen, they select 5 numbers from 1 to 67, each corresponding to a question which was unbeknownst to them.  What happens next…is for your reading pleasure.

Here are the “Chosen Ones” for September 2015!

Would you rather shave your eyebrows or accidently send a nasty computer virus to 1000 of your friends colleagues?

Definitely Eyebrows, though it would probably look really bad. But Viruses are bad times.

What nickname(s) do you have?

I’ve actually never had a nickname. Probably one of the benefits of a one-syllable name.

When in your life have you had a “now or never” moment?

Probably the most notable is when I asked my now wife out, at her 16th birthday party. She was giving very clear signals that she was interested, but I was 16 and stupid, and relatively terrified she was going to say no.

If you could have a drink with someone from history who would it be and why?

The usual answer I give to something like this is either Leonardo DaVinci, or Carl Sagan, because I think talking to either of them would be incredibly fascinating, but I think in reality I’d probably pick Jim Henson. He was a deeply insightful man, and I wish we were still able to get his perspective on things.

If you had 5,000,000, what would you do with it?

I’ve thought about this a lot over the years, like a lot of people do. The order of events would be: Pay off our house, both our Student loans, and all our other debt. Pay off my parents houses, and buy her parents each a small house. Setup a college fund for my 14-year old sister. Buy an electric car. Invest/Save the rest. $5mil could easily set us up for the rest of our lives, as long as we are smart about it.

If you owned a luxury yacht, what would you name it?

Fishizzle.

What was the last book you read?

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened.

If you could have a drink with someone from history who would it be and why?

God…to ask her what she was thinking.

If you found $100 on the ground, what would really you do with it?

Fold it into a paper airplane and launch it.

What are 3 things you cannot live without?

Arm floaties, Oculus Rift, Onesies.

Thomas “Monty” Montgomery, VP of Product Development

Would you rather shave your eyebrows or accidently send a nasty computer virus to 1000 of your friends colleagues?

I keep expectations really low when it comes to eyebrows.  Back in college, waking up with one eyebrow shaved was a typical consequence of being the first one to fall asleep.  I also endured the lovely experience of singeing my eyebrows completely off after a marginally successful experiment with model rocket engines back when fear was an afterthought (middle school).  If you get too attached to your eyebrows, you will ultimately end up unhappy and very likely cold and alone.  Give them freely I say!monty

If you had a ton of money how would it corrupt you?

As with almost every super villain, my decisions would begin from a place of good intentions, living secluded on my tiny self-sustaining tropical island in my penthouse villa.  Fishing, farming and sharing time with loved ones would inevitably lead to submarine construction, a burning urge to travel through space and a small army of brain-washed loyalists.

If you were a DJ, what would your DJ name be?

In the late ‘90s, I put a variation of my name in the Wu Tang Name Generator (back when name generators were all the rage) and it came back with  (you can ask me what it was in person) would have been my answer to this question at the time. Now that I’ve grown up a bit and have children that constantly think and say amazing things – for example:

Elody <holding a stuffed animal duck pillow> :  “What do you think about going to the moon on this duck?”

Me : “I think that’s a brilliant idea.”

Elody : “Let’s go”

I would choose a handle that is less ‘90s, more 2015 and one that truly represents who I am today.  Hence, Moon Duck.  There is really no need to add a “DJ” in front.  It’s function only limits.

What is your favorite sweet or salty snack?

Deep inside, I’m really just tolerating things that are sweet.  If it’s my birthday and you’re planning on bringing me a cake or some designer cupcakes, don’t.  Bring me a shoebox of cajun boiled peanuts and some hush puppies instead.

What is one of your pet peeves?

At some level, we all have a daily battle with self-absorption, vanity and other narcissistic attitudes and behaviors.  It’s not always easy to heighten your awareness, open your mind and truly see things from someone else’s or another group’s perspective.   Losing that battle can manifest as intolerant perspectives, lacking common decency and, yes, bad driving.  Put simply, the result is often not following the Golden Rule, “treat others like you would like to be treated”.  All is not lost!  We are not going to win every battle and sometimes selfish behavior is the correct response. The most important part is that we are aware of the daily struggle we all face, strive to achieve kindness and have patience when people make decisions to the contrary.

Laura Motz, Technical Engineer

If you were going to do karaoke tonight, what song would you sing?

“The Message” by Grandmaster Flash or “One and Only” by Adele.  That’s a tough one. I need a beer to help contemplate this further.

What is the best lie that you have ever told?Laura

These are not the Droids you are looking for…

If you had a ton of
money, how would it corrupt you?

What kind of money are we talking about here? A ton of monopoly money? Euros? Are they marked? Is there a dye pack? How are we moving the money? Who else is involved? Do we have a solid wheel man? When you’re talking about that much money, you gotta be on point or else you’re gonna get popped.  As for the corruption aspect…squirrel!

Name 3 things in nature you find the most beautiful.

I would have to say sunsets, I’m a sucker for a good sunset.  The Shore, ahem, I mean the “beach” is a close second. I certainly miss looking out over the waves. And cows. My taste buds think they are beautiful.

What was your first job?

Hmmm…on the books it was a yuppie caffinator at Starbucks.  Or a space pirate. I don’t exactly remember.
